no…..i just have lots on my proverbial plate right now.  i did get to go to a great show last month.  murder by death headlined, supported by bands o’death and kiss kiss.  local two-man band of angels and lions opened. they were pretty good.  o’death, of whom i had not heard before i knew of this show, COMPLETELY BLEW MY FUCKING MIND. i will expand on this post later, i have some important things that need attending to……………..

but it’s spring break!  i’ve been listening to larkin grimm quite a lot in the past couple of weeks.  she has a wonderful, powerful voice and plays the dulcimer (and other instruments) beautifully.  now based in providence, rhode island,  she was born in a commune of energy healers in tennessee, raised in the appalachian foothills of georgia, and once hitchhiked across alaska. rocky top, from “the last tree”www.larkingrimm.com

HOT BOX

wizardtron

this has been said of wizardtron, and yes, i am repeating it:
“Darbong, Humtron and Rainbow Tits comprise this Montreal band that incorporates punk, art rock, no wave and various sounds to give you a cerebral hemmorhage and akathisia.”

i got quite happy when i heard their song hot box. this band could easily get a room full of people dancing. kickass dancey drums, wicked organ, and super fun, half-screamed vocals!!!!! plus they have a song called hot box. hot boxes are amazing, by the way. they’re also acquaintances/friends/fans? of fellow montrealers aids wolf. if you’re in/around the montreal area and they’re playing, go see them. i think the show would be very fun, although this is just…speculation.

it’s really fun to shout HOT BOX!!!!!!!!!

je suis pants

not really. je suis france, however….

je suis france is an amazing rock band from the lovely athens, georgia. its 9 members make anything from a loud wall of psychy-influenced sound to still loud rock anthems. the guitars are catchy (they remind me of sonic youth’s daydream nation and goo as well…sonic youth in general maybe), the vocals are nice (lyrics just witty enough), and every other piece of instrumentation is a lovely addition. the france. wall of sound wall of sound wall of sound. loud loud loud! GREAT BAND. one time they did some frank zappa covers too!

here are two songs your ears will appreciate:
california still rules
wizard of points

happy listening!

oh suomi, how i love you so

Joose Keskitalo

joose keskitalo is a finnish folk musician who often contributes to paavoharju, a finnish free-folk/psychedelic/electronic band  (if you haven’t listened to them already, you should really do so, but only if you want).   i guess i should go ahead and note that all of his music is in finnish, so…if you don’t mind the language barrier, give it listen.

”kuljin minä maantietä” by joose keskitalo from the album kaupungit puristuvat puristimissa.

he records on the helmi levyt label. (www. helmilevyt.com)

happy vALENTINE’S DAY pt. 1

February 15, 2008 by elektronikmonkey

i was going to make a nice little list of downloads for this lovely occasion, but i’m going to be lazy and finish that later. it’s gonna be GOOOOD though when i do it. it’ll be up within the next day or so.

currently, as in, at the very moment i type, i am listening to P.G. Six. For some reason his voice, to me, is reminiscent of that of Bert Jansch, the “British Bob Dylan” (misnomer) and founding member of the Pentangle. anyway, P.G. (Pat Gubler), a member of The Tower Recordings, makes nice, often droney and chimey guitar and harp based psych-folk, if you will. what a mouthful of useless description. he plays lots of instruments (hammond organ, harp, guitar, electric piano, etc etc etc) and it is very very good. a real “one man acid folk band.”

old man on the mountain, from P.G. Six’s album the well of memory.

this song is wonderful beautiful beautiful great

ghq

you should listen to ghq. their brand of music might appeal especially to those who like fursaxa, paavoharju, the tower recordings, jack rose, mv & ee, and other similar bands. their music is psych-folk with an audible eastern influence. it is very good music for taking trips.i am listening to this song right now:crystal healing
